The mausoleum (also known as Hazira Maqbara) contains the grave of Qutb-ud-din Muhammad Khan who was the tutor of Salim, son and successor of Akbar, and also that of his son Naurang Khan who held important offices in Gujarat under Akbar.
 
Qutb-ud-din was the uncle of Mirza Aziz Koka, foster brother of Akbar and Governor of Gujarat thrice between 1573 A.D. and 1583 A.D. He was killed in 1583 by Muzaffar III, the last Sultan of Gujarat. Qutb-ud-din was a famed general in the army of Akbar and he later became the governor of the Baroda region.
 
Built on a high octagonal platform with small gates facing cardinal directions, and with five arches on each side, the mausoleum resembles Humayun’s mausoleum in Delhi. According to the Archaeological Survey of India the mausoleum was built around 1586. It is in the style of the Mughal tombs at Delhi. And following that order, the real grave is in an underground chamber.
 
It is one the most important historical monuments connected with Muslim rule at Vadodara. Besides the grave of Qutb-ud-din Muhammad Khan the place contains the remains of his son Naurang Khan who also held important offices in Gujarat under the Mughal emperor Akbar.
 
The mausoleum is located about 1 Km from the Pratapnagar railway overbridge.
