Periodontal diseases result in tooth loss in 90 % of the adult population. Chronic Periodontitis is the most prevalent type of periodontitis, the clinical symptoms being redness of the gingiva which leads to bleeding and pus discharge, a foul smell in the mouth and most importantly the presence of a periodontal pocket (space between the tooth and the gums). Flap Surgery is one of the methods of pocket elimination. The ultimate goal of periodontal therapy is to restore or regenerate the periodontal tissues lost during periodontal disease with the help of various bone graft materials.

Dr. Sharmila Verma did her graduation and postgraduation from Government Dental College & Hospital, Ahmedabad. She taught Periodontology at Bombay University (Dr. D.Y. Patil Dental College and Hospital) and also worked at Lady Ratan Tata Memorial Hospital. In addition to her practice, she is also the Assistant Professor at K.M. Shah Dental College and Hospital at Baroda. She also performs surgeries at Bombay, by appointment.
